The NFSA releases The Giorgio Mangiamele Collection on DVD, featuring Mangiamele’s significant film work from the 1950s and 1960s.
The Italian-born filmmaker Giorgio Mangiamele (1926-2001) arrived in Australia as a migrant in 1952 and the following year began making his first feature, Il Contratto (The Contract). His film Clay represented Australia at the Cannes Film Festival in 1965.
The NFSA restores four of Mangiamele’s films for the DVD box set, three of which screen at the 2011 Melbourne International Film Festival.
