Several demountable buildings have been constructed on the NFSA lawns to accommodate the increase in staff and activity. Film processing and video laboratories are located in a refitted basement. The result is impractical and unsustainable and poses risks to the handling of sensitive collection material.
In October Prime Minister Paul Keating announces that $11 million will be provided to build an extension to the NFSA.
